Wild for flowers with Yvonne Coomber

I ‘met’ Yvonne 2 years ago through Instagram and quickly it became apparent she is such a special soul. She has warmth, positivity, and kind generous nature. Her art is incredibly beautiful and when the invite arrived to go and meet her and experience her art in real life I was both delighted and excited. Yvonne weaves magic and love into her work. Her paintings are layers of rainbow oil paints along with gold leaf and inks applied in such a way that each picture comes alive, they really are a thing of beauty. Yvonne paints outside her studio which is located in the country side, in greenery extending as far as the eye can see. She has a deep connection with nature and her surroundings. Nature plays a key role in her work, she is often inspired by wildflower meadows and the colours and vibrancy that dance together in a summer meadow is captured so effectively in her work.

The gathering with other creative women took place in the picturesque location of Pip Farm, Devon for a few days last week. It was a truly wonderful experience for me to meet up with such a warm bunch of supportive women in the inspiring setting both at Pip Farm and at Yvonne’s studio, shop and home where she creates her art in Totnes.

We were also treated to some workshops, advice on apps and instragam by Julia @humphreyandgrace. A session on Pinterest by Georgie and Dörte from @acitygirlatheart @lewesmap. Along with a creative dried wreath making workshop led by Bex from @botanical_tales. The workshops were informal and relaxed, and we were able to chat and share ideas, everyone was so generous with their time and knowledge.

Especially memorable was the visit to Yvonne’s home and studio where we got to see the behind the scenes.
Yvonne’s home is a vibrant feast of colours and texture. Her artwork is displayed throughout with other local artists as well. I fell in love with her daughter Poppy’s art displayed in the kitchen. Art fills all the spaces, character furniture, colourful plates and the soft furnishings were all amazing. I asked Yvonne about her impressive rug collection and she explained we put art on the walls so why not on the floor as well. I couldn’t agree more, makes me think I need to add a few more rugs to my own home!

Close up of Poppy Coombers Art pictured above. I could talk and talk about this trip and how I returned inspired and renergised. I know its going to have a lasting effect on me, with what I want to do in future and what I want to share on Instagram.

See below a close up of Yvonne’s new work, more muted tones and dreamy layers of texture.

Botanical bath scene made quickly the morning before we went home, I love playing with water and flowers and with both in supply and so pretty I couldn’t resist.

Before I go I want to say a thank you to Yvonne and her team for making this trip possible and inviting me. To all the women that attended it was so lovely to meet you all and spend time together. Thank you to the wonderful chef Djamila the food was delicious, I left feeling healthier. To Martha for her beautiful floral arrangements that adorned each room, window and table. They were a rich feast of colour.

It was truly wonderful from start to finish.

With love

Elizabeth
